Undergraduate Admissions

Dominican's financial aid program provides assistance to students whose personal and family resources cannot meet the cost of education. Assistance is in the form of federal, state and institutional grants, loans and employment. Only those students who have been accepted for admission are considered for financial aid.

An applicant's aid eligibility will be determined by an evaluation of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Dominican University's code is 001750.

FAFSA

To be eligible for federal or state aid, students must be United States citizens or permanent residents enrolled for at least six semester hours per term. To remain eligible for financial aid, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and continue to demonstrate need on financial aid applications submitted annually.

Need-Based Financial Aid
Dominican participates in federal and state grant, loan and employment programs and maintains its own substantial grant and employment programs for students with financial need. Students are considered for all programs for which they are eligible. Aid is provided in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and campus employment.

Grants

The university maintains a substantial grant program for students who demonstrate need. The FAFSA serves as the application for Dominican grants, which vary in amount depending on need and other aid received.

The Federal Pell Grant Program provides assistance to qualified low-income students. The maximum Pell Grant is currently $4,310.

The university participates in the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Program. The FAFSA serves as the application for this award; awards are based on need and the availability of funds.

Illinois state monetary awards are available to Dominican students through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission Monetary Award Program. The maximum grant is currently $4,968. The grant is available to Illinois residents only. The FAFSA serves as the application for the MAP Grant.

Loans

The Federal Perkins Loan Program provides low-interest loans to needy students. Repayment, including 5% interest on the unpaid balance, begins nine months after cessation of at least half-time study.

The university also participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program which enables students enrolled at least half-time to borrow directly from financial institutions.

Federal Stafford Loan limits are $3,500 per year for freshmen, $4,500 for sophomores, and $5,500 for other undergraduates. For an interest-subsidized Federal Stafford Loan, repayment of principal and interest is deferred until after the borrower graduates or enrolls less than half-time.

The Federal Stafford Loan Interest rate is 6.8%.

It is a federal government requirement that students complete a student loan entrance counseling session prior to obtaining a Federal Stafford student loan. Additional unsubsidized Stafford loan funds are available to independent undergraduate students. Loan limits vary depending on academic year.
